Respect the Bonsai

I have always thought that the respect for bonsai is achieved when your bonsai trees are put somewhere that will get your attention. They need to be placed so that you can look at them everyday. If you get into the routine of taking the time and asking your bonsai tree, "How are you getting on today?" It will be time enough for you to judge the state of your bonsai tree. The only problem with this plan is when you have to leave and come home in the dark. It is becomes difficult to keep an eye on the condition of your bonsai trees so it is important that as soon as possible you do find time in the daylight to walk around you bonsai trees and check on how they are growing.

I like to think that this talking to the bonsai tree is respecting and recognizing that because it is growing in a pot it is depending on me for its survival. You can liken it to looking after pets and I have certainly likened it to having and looking after children. You have them for a long time and how you look after, nurture and train them will produce the results that you deserve.

I must say that my children have turned out to be successful in their own right and I am still working on the nurturing and training of my bonsai trees. My respect for bonsai is as strong today as it was when I began growing and training bonsai trees about thirty five years ago. Happy Bonsai.
